Wood-Fired Mug
Wheel-thrown mug made of Deschutes White Clay with Old Hickory, wood fired in the Anagama kiln at East Creek Pottery in the Oregon Coast Range. Glazed on the lip and interior with a shino glaze. All other coloring on the mug is created by the wood ash circulating in the kiln during the week-long firing. The firing is a collective process where teams of people work in shifts to get the kiln to load the kiln, stoke it with wood to reach the right temperature, cool it and unload it. Jess spent hours stoking the kiln that fired this piece. Learn more about the process of wood firing at eastcreekart.org.
Note - This piece has a shard of ceramic attached to one side of it that is rough, but it is still usable. On the other side, there are some small defects.

** The Seconds Sale features one-of-a-kind imperfect pots. Each has a small mistake, so all pieces are discounted. Some are experimental pieces, others have a small defect, and some are old designs. Thanks for helping create space for new work to emerge in the next month!
